After spending my freshman year of college at NYU Steinhardt's undergraduate program in Educational Theatre, I transferred into NYU Tisch to study Drama. I recently started classes at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. Here is a first day of school photo!
This summer, I returned to my longtime summer camp, French Woods, to work for the first time as a Theatre Assistant Director and Theatre Teacher. Here are some awesome things I got to do this summer:
- Assistant directed five full length theatre productions—my responsibilities included working with principles on acting (characterization, voice, finding confidence in their choices, and general stage presence), blocking scenes, leading ensemble exercises, facilitating communication across many departments (scenery, props, costume, tech, etc.).
- Fiddler on the Roof
- The Hunchback of Notre Dame
- Aladdin, Jr.
- Blood Brothers
- RENT School Edition
- Taught improv classes to students age 9-18
- Coached the French Woods Improv Troupe
- Was a bunk counselor for twenty five 11-13 year olds
- Directed a one act play with 12-15 year olds
- Taught creative writing classes
Returning as a staff member was a completely new experience. I learned so, so much. I look forward to returning in 2018 for my second year on staff.
See below a picture of my third session improv class. They made shirts for their end-of-session class performance for their parents.
This summer at French Woods I was awarded the French Woods Citizenship Award, which recognizes major contributions to the French Woods community. I think it's pretty neat, and my friend Maddie presented the award with a beautiful speech in front of the whole camp.
After a semester-long run of Twelfth Night, which we presented at K-12 schools all across NYC every week, we closed out or run with a performance for the NYU Steinhardt community at the Frederick Lowe Theatre. Here is an image from that performance. That's me on the floor.
After traveling to Chicago this week with my improv team Dangerbox, New York regional champions of the tournament, we placed top ten in the country out of over three hundred collegiate level improv teams. Here's a picture that they took of us at the tournament which we love:
NYU Steinhardt's production of The Miracle Worker opens tonight. I am proud to be making my first appearance in one of the school's mainstage plays. I play The Doctor, and am on the run crew in time when I am not on stage. Cast and crew photo (I am top center):
After an intense production process, we performed a play that was written and rehearsed all within the previous 24 hours. Carter, by Jonaya Kemper.
I've officially begun classes at NYU Steinhardt's Program in Educational Theatre. I'm all moved in to my college dorm, and I've been through too many Welcome Week name games than I'd like to admit. Here is a photograph of my class in Educational Theatre:
